The Department has updated its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about documentation requirements for all Specialty Mental Health Services (SMHS), Drug Medi-Cal (DMC), and Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS). Updates include, but are not limited to, problem lists, progress notes, assessments, treatment planning, and other documentation guidance. These FAQs include important clarifications on the following topics:
Documentation of treatment planning activities for recipients of federal Substance Abuse Block Grant funds.
Documentation of client informed consent to receive antipsychotic medication in SMHS settings.

An updated Behavioral Health Information Notice will be published in the fall of 2023 superseding BHIN 22-019.
